Working to Build Better Communities

The last decade has witnessed the beginnings of a renaissance for urban areas within Brown County. As our area has grown and become more sprawling, many have seen a need for a more compact, urban alternative within the community. In the midst of important successes for our downtowns, debate has sparked about whether the benefits of investing in downtown are worth the time, effort, and cost.

Downtownvital.org was formed to bring together those within the community who believe that downtown revitalization is not only worthwhile, but necessary to maintain the quality of life we enjoy. We see a positive outlook for our downtowns. While challenges exist, much progress has been made. We also feel our communities should strive to do great things – fear of failure will not only limit our vision, but ensure mediocrity.

Downtownvital.org is not about just one city or one downtown, but believes that downtown development from Green Bay to De Pere, from Ashwaubenon to Wrightstown is equally important for everyone in the county, and that improvement in one community will benefit all other communities. If you support our mission, get involved today! Brown County’s downtowns need your help, as important decisions are being made right now that will affect our communities for the next century and beyond.

About the Founder

Downtownvital.org was founded by Dan Moore. Dan is a life-long Brown County resident, a graduate of Ashwaubenon High School and UW-Green Bay with a degree in integrated communications. Dan currently works as a web, marketing, and data specialist at UW-Green Bay.

Dan's enthusiasm for downtowns began during his first trip to Chicago (age 5) as a fascination with tall buildings. Sometime in high school he came to the realization that this community he had grown up in wasn't so bad after all, but that the downtown was seriously lacking. During travels to places as diverse as New York, Paris, Sydney, Winnipeg, MB, Cedar Rapids, IA, and more, Dan developed an awarness of what makes downtowns strong.

Dan has been a volunteer since 2001 on Downtown Green Bay Inc's Urban Design Committee, and has been chairman of that committee since 2004. You can contact Dan at dan@downtownvital.org.
